Backspace is a macOS application for discovering, organizing, and playing live wallpapers on the desktop and Lock Screen.
Your privacy is paramount. This Policy follows privacy-by-design principles and limits data collection to what is necessary for licensing, access management, security, and anonymous wallpaper discovery features. Backspace does not build a personal activity profile about you. By using the App, you agree to the terms outlined below.
Data Collection
License and Purchase Identifiers
We store the license key and limited Paddle identifiers required to confirm your purchase, deliver your license, and validate its status. They are stored in a secure, private database.
Device Identifier
A Unique Hardware ID is a non-personal hardware identifier of your Mac. Its sole purpose is to associate a license with one specific device for license enforcement. It is stored in a secure, private database and mapped to your License Identifier.
Purchase Email and Payment Information
Paddle processes payments and card details. Aura Company receives and stores your email address and the limited purchase identifiers needed to deliver your license, maintain access, and provide support. We do not receive or store complete payment card details.
Anonymous Wallpaper Interactions
Wallpaper likes, downloads, and applications may be counted using a random installation identifier. These aggregate interactions help operate Popular and Trending sections and are not tied to your license, hardware identifier, email address, or location.
Data Use
- License Validation: Verifying your status as a paid user during initial activation and periodic license checks.
- Access Management: Ensuring continuous access to the App’s full features on your authorized device.
- Wallpaper Discovery: Producing anonymous aggregate rankings such as Popular and Trending without identifying individual users.
Third Parties
- Paddle: Manages purchase transactions and securely transfers the identifiers required to fulfill and validate your license.
- License Verification Server: Handles secure communication to verify your license status.
- Update Server: Hosts update files through Sparkle and does not interact with personal data.
Data Security
Your License Identifier is stored locally on your Mac to avoid repetitive manual entry. Data transmitted between the App and our verification server is encrypted and exchanged only when required for license checks. Complete payment card details remain with Paddle and are not received or stored by Aura Company. Anonymous wallpaper interactions are not tied to your license, hardware identifier, email address, or location.
Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or request the deletion of data held by us. To request permanent deletion, contact us using the information below. These rights apply to the licensing and purchase information described in this Policy and maintained to deliver your license, manage access, and provide support. Anonymous wallpaper interactions are aggregated and are not tied to your license, hardware identifier, email address, or location.
